At The Detail Doc I get asked all the time, "What is paint correction?" So I decided to make this blog article to describe what paint correction is. Here is also a short video by The Detail Doc explaining what paint correction is:
Paint correction is the process by which we use machine polishers and micro-abrasives to remove a very thin layer of clear coat to fix damage such as swirl marks, scratches, and other visible defects.
Why have paint correction done?
To restore the gloss, clarity, and depth to your paint. Paint correction can fix damage such as swirl marks, scratches, and etchings that can be caused by car washes, improper washing, and the environment. The Detail Doc uses paint correction to prepare our vehicles before installing ceramic coatings on them. Yes, even new cars need even a little paint correction. You'd be surprised at the condition of a new vehicle, hint: they have a lot of defects the majority of the time.
Paint correction can be done at a fraction of the cost of a new paint job. However, paint correction can only be done so many times. There is only a finite amount of clear coat and paint on a vehicle. Each time we do paint correction we are removing clear coat from this finite amount. We want to do paint correction as little as we can and after paint correction it's imperative that the paint is protected. The Detail Doc recommends protecting your paint with ceramic coatings. We also have numerous videos explaining ceramic coatings.
If you ave any further questions regarding paint correction or would be interested in having paint correction done, please feel free to contacts The Detail Doc.
