Frequently asked questions

What is paint protection film?

Paint protection film is a clear urethane film that can be applied to a vehicle to help prevent rock chips and other paint damage from happening. Films are typically 7-9 mils thick about 3-4 sheets of paper thick. PPF is also reffered to as clear bra. At The Detail Doc, we pride ourselves on transparency, openness, and education. At any time should you have questions prior to, or after ceramic coating application, we would love to hear from you. You can contact us: (989) 244-0505 seth@thedetaildoc.co Ceramic Coating and Paint Correction Specialists near Bay City, Midland, Saginaw, and Freeland, MI.

How much is paint protection film?

Ceramic coatings require a trained skillset and numerous hours of labor. Our paint protection film packages start at $1,500 for an entry level option up tens of thousand dollars depending on the difficulty of the vehicle, the liability, and the scope of the work. At The Detail Doc, we pride ourselves on transparency, openness, and education. At any time should you have questions prior to, or after ceramic coating application, we would love to hear from you. How long does ppf last?

PPF comes with a 10 year guarantee from bubbling, yellowing, or delamination. However, this does not mean after 10 years that the film will just fail and fall off. Just like a ceramic coating, the better you maintain it the longer it will last. We recommend proper wash technique and regular maintainance washing for best results and durability from your PPF.

What are the benefits to paint protection film?

Paint protection film acts as a barrier from your paint and the elements. It will save you the headache of a flying rock that can easily damage the paint on your beautiful car. The cost to repaint panels can be in the thousands just to be redamaged again with out ppf. If you have a spirited sports car or an awesome daily driver that you want to keep looking as good as possible film and a ceramic coating is the way to go. Both protection from rock chips and super gloss and ease of cleaning from the coating. At The Detail Doc, we pride ourselves on transparency, openness, and education. At any time should you have questions prior to, or after ceramic coating application, we would love to hear from you. Is PPF self healing?

Yes, most ppf are self healing to an extent. Light marring and scratches will heal in the sun but however there are limitations. It is not 100% scratch proof as nothing can be perfect. Deeper scratches put into film can not always be repaired.

Can I install it myself?

Paint protection film requires a very trained skillset. We invest lots of time and money into the proper training and certifications in order to produce a quality product. A professional grade film provides an unmatched level of protection and gloss that aren't typically seen in a consumer grade film. Having a climate controlled work space is absolutely crucial to installing film as even the slightest bits of dust can distort the quality of the film. In short, yes, you can install a consumer grade film yourself. It is recommended that a professional do it for you though. We have all the neccesary tools, training, experience, and certifications that let us produce an amazing end product. Improper installation or improper preparation for a ceramic coating can lead to premature coating failure, undesirable results, a dulled finish, and spots where the film is lifting, peeling and looks bad.

"I can honestly say I have never been so happy with a service. From the start, Seth was amazing to work with. I found him through Facebook and loved his story. Someone who has a dream and is working hard to get there. I could tell he took pride in his work and knew I was making the right choice choosing him. I got the 9 year ceramic coating and also did my rims and glass. I bought this car brand new in May and it looks better than the day I picked it up from the dealership. Thank you Detail Doc for the awesome experience and for making my dream car look AMAZING!!!!"

"Seth did an absolutely amazing job on my 2017 Cadillac CTS - he literally transformed the car inside and out. He performed a 2 step paint correction and finished it off with a 4 year IGL Kenzo ceramic coating. He also coated the wheels and glass! My car is extremely glossy and free of swirl marks and scratches because of Seth. Not only is Seth extremely knowledgeable in the industry, but he has awesome attention to detail! His customer service is outstanding and his work speaks for itself, here's a few pics. The services Seth offers are worth EVERY PENNY. He is the best of the best and I will continue to give him my business for years to come and you should too!"
